La Supra MKIII participa à quelques rallyes dans sa carrière, plus précisément entre 1987 et 1989 avec trois équipages : Lars-Erik Torph/Benny Melander Björn Waldegård/Fred Gallagher et Robin Ulyate/Ian Street le drnier équipage étant des privés, les deux autres étant engagés par Toyota Team Europe.
En 1987 la version engagé était basé sur une MKIII Atmo.

La Supra a mené le Safari Rally 87 jusqu'à ce qu'une casse moteur le dernier jour brise les espoirs de victoire.
A l'issue de la saison, la voiture totalisa un score de 18 points, le meilleur résultat étant une victoire au Rallye de Hong-Kong avec l'équipage Björn Waldegård/Fred Gallagher.
A partir de 1988, Toyota Team Europe ce tourna vers une version Turbo.
